Abstract

Using research gathered from the National Fairground Archive (at the University of Sheffield) and working directly with a bespoke bicycle frame maker, the project developed a sculptural work and written paper that explores the commodification of experience in spaces of work and leisure. The peripatetic, kinetic sculptural work operated as a mobile ceramics machine (simultaneous transported and operated by the mechanics of the bicycle). Following circular fairground routes, material (earth and clay) was gathered from the sites and 'worked' on the machine to produce objects that acted as a record of the experience.
