This study is written within the context of Catholic education. The study sets out to evaluate the importance attached to the preferential option for the poor within Catholic social teaching and to reflect upon the issues facing Catholic schools as they strive to meet the needs of the disadvantaged within modern society. The study is a piece of action research undertaken by a practising teacher in response to both a Local Authority and Welsh Assembly Government priority. The study was carried out using data collected from the Early Years department of the research school.
